Widget Logic – How-to and Review – WordPress Plugin

In designing this website, I wanted to show an additional advertisement block at the bottom of every blog post. If the 300px x 250px ad block were to display on the home page, it would throw off the vertical alignment. In searching for a WordPress plugin that allowed me to show only certain content on specified pages, posts, categories, tags, etc I found Widget Logic.

Widget Logic

The official plugin download page really didn’t help me much with the configuration. In fact, the download page doesn’t really show you how to use the plugin. For this, I stumbled upon the following WordPress.org article called “Conditional Tags“. These (short-code) commands if you will, enable internal WordPress functions. Having the ability to add a widget, then specify a condition to that widget, such as display only on homepage only can prove to be very handy.

As soon as you enable the plugin on your WordPress site. You’ll then see a new section labelled “Widget logic” at the bottom of all your widgets. Appearance > Widgets. I use the Ads by datafeedr.com plugin to display random advertisements and use the following condition to display the ad block on posts only.

To see this plugin in action, simply scroll down this page and look toward the bottom-right. The very last ad block is a result of the text widget that you see above. Even if you don’t download or use the plugin today, its always good to just know a plugin like this actually exists.
